  12. Installing MAPIT:
  13.  
  14. The first time you run it, MAPIT will create a special directory structure
  15. under the current directory of your harddrive.  Assuming that you unzipped
  16. MAPIT20.ZIP in a directory called MAPIT, your harddrive will contain the
  17. following structure:
  18.  
  19.         MAPIT - executables and data
  20.  
  21.                 DBFS - point data .dbf's
  22.  
  23.                 DBQS - queries and supporting .dbf's
  24.  
  25.                 EXAMPLES - supporting data for examples
  26.  
  27. Run MAPIT by entering "mapit":
  28.  
  29.         C:\MAPIT> mapit
  30.  
  31. MAPIT will open the DEMO.MP3 file and use it as data. Furthermore, MAPIT
  32. will open EXTENDED.MP3 to display the Columbus Demo. When you're tired of
  33. it, delete EXTENDED.MP3. Like a dismembered star fish, EXTENDED.MP3 will be
  34. regenerated as a null length file the next time you run MAPIT.

  37. A Quick Demo:
  38.  
  39. MAPIT comes up in the Standard World View the first time you run. 
  40.  
  41.         <Tab> to zoom in on the Gulf of Mexico. (You are tabbing backward
  42.         through a two-level history.)
  43.  
  44.         <Tab> again to zoom in on Florida. 
  45.  
  46.         Click to check "DISPLAY/All Features" and click "ZOOM/To Std World"
  47.         to return to the beginning but with maximum features displayed.
  48.         Again <Tab> twice.
  49.  
  50. After you've cycled through this simple demonstration, you may want to
  51. reduce the number of Features DISPLAYed and begin experimenting by
  52. "ZOOMing/In by Corners" and using the <Esc>, <Pg Up/Dn>, and arrow keys as
  53. outlined in MAPIT.DOC.
  54.  
  55.         "ZOOM/To Std World" and check out the Columbus Demo.

  57. To look up locations in MAPIT's database, select TOOLS/Database/Lookup/City
  58. Gazetteer, enter "Saint" in City, click on Lookup/More twice, select Saint
  59. Petersburg, FL or any other city from the list of matches, and click on
  60. Return & Display.  MAPIT will redisplay centered on that location. <Esc> the
  61. redisplay and ZOOM/To Factor x entering 300.
